Our Ministry Affirms the Following Beliefs:
The Godhead
Our faith asserts the existence of one true and holy God, eternal and manifested in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19). God, at the outset, showcased His power, wisdom, and goodness through the creation of the world and all that inhabits it. Through divine power and providence, God actively sustains His creation, navigating through history to accomplish His redemptive objectives.
The Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, the eternal second person of the Trinity, was miraculously conceived and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus received a human body and a sinless human nature without ceasing to be God (Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1, 14, 18; Hebrews 4:15; Philippians 2:5-11). He lived a sinless life in perfect obedience to the Father. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus served as the substitute for all people taking away the sins of the entire world (Romans 3:25-31; II Corinthians 5:14; Hebrews 10:5-14), satisfying divine justice and offering salvation to those who trust in Him alone. Following His physical death, Christ rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, and He ascended to Heaven, and now serves as the sole intercessor between God and humanity. His promise of a personal and visible return remains, fulfilling God's eternal plan for history. We believe that He became Head over all things to the church which is His body, and in this ministry He does not cease to intercede and to be an advocate for the saved. (Luke 1:35; I Corinthians 15:1-3; Ephesians 1:23; Philippians 2:6-8; I Timothy 2:5; I John 2:1-2).
The Holy Spirit
We affirm the belief in the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit applies Christ's redemptive work by enlightening sinners to their need for salvation. Upon salvation, the Holy Spirit renews and indwells each believer, serving as the source of assurance, strength, wisdom, and gifting for the church's edification (Romans 5:5, 8:9-11; Galatians 5:16-25, Romans 12:6; I Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:7).
The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Bible, empowering them to lead Christ-like lives and bear fruit for the Father's glory. As the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit is co-equal, co-eternal, and co-existent with the Father and the Son. His ministry involves convicting and converting individuals and serving as the great paraclete to the Church.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire, promised by Jesus, is a distinct gift received by believers, providing power for life and service, as well as the bestowment of gifts for ministry. This experience empowers believers to be witnesses of Jesus Christ through the preaching and demonstration of the Gospel. While there is one initial baptism, subsequent infillings of the Spirit occur. The ultimate purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is to empower believers to be effective witnesses (Matthew 3:11; John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; Acts 2).
The Holy Scriptures
We firmly assert that the complete Old and New Testaments originated from God, who divinely inspired chosen authors by His revelation. The Scriptures bear the authority of God while also reflecting the backgrounds, styles, and vocabularies of these human authors. We affirm that the Scriptures, serving as a testimony to Christ, are infallible and inerrant. They stand as the unparalleled, comprehensive, and ultimate authority on all matters of faith and practice. No other writings hold a similar divine inspiration from God.
The Personality of Satan
We affirm our belief that Satan, also known as the devil, holds the title of prince among demons and stands as the acknowledged adversary of both God and humanity. Nonetheless, through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the Cross, the power of the devil has been limited, guaranteeing God's ultimate victory. (Ephesians 2:2; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 20:10; Colossians 2:13-15).
Salvation
We affirm that entrance into the kingdom of God is solely through spiritual rebirth, which occurs by placing faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Our redemption is secured through the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ, a gracious gift bestowed by God's love and not earned through human effort. Upon receiving Jesus Christ by faith, believers transition from spiritual death to spiritual life, establishing communion with God. This salvation is eternal, ensuring the eternal security of all genuine believers. (John 3:7-18; II Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:13; Romans 4:4-5; John 1:12, 5:24; John 10:28-29; Romans 3:24, 8:35-39; II Timothy 2:11-13; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:5, 8-9).
The Church
We affirm that all who are joined with the risen and ascended Son of God constitute the Church, known as the body of Christ. (I Corinthians 12:12-27; Acts 2:42-47). The explicit directive of our Lord Jesus Christ to those saved is to proclaim His message worldwide, a mission entrusted to the Church collectively and its individual members. (Matthew 28:18-19; Acts 1:8; II Corinthians 5:11-21). Local congregations, such as Essence of Christ Churches, convene for practical instruction in Scripture, for communion with God and fellow believers, and to collectively bear witness to the world. Our shared spiritual objective is to progress towards Christlikeness. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:5; Ephesians 4:13-16).
